Peach:Week 13

Besides looking really yummy, the peach is the size of our baby. The fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with a head now only one third the size of the body. Intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy. (Much more convenient.) PS Hopefully I will have pictures later today that I will be able to post of the ultrasound! We volunteered for a study my OB is doing and we get to see the baby really early!

Week 12: Plum

YAY!!! I am done with my first trimester. (Gotta squeak this end before the week's over :-))


So, baby has shifted into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of baby's systems are fully formed.

I know this is like super early, but I swear I have been feeling baby move (which would make sense after the doc said the baby's doing flips=very active). Every great once in a while, I feel a little flutter down there and I swear it's the baby!

Baby's Heartbeat

So I had my second OB appointment today. It was quick and I was glad I didn't have to strip down again. I got to meet the doctor that will be delivering little Baby Phillips. She is soooooooooo nice and very comforting. While we were there we discussed eating and the best things for me and blueberry, and stay away from the cliche "You're eating for two". After we discussed eating and some health background stuff, she pulled out the gel and a microphone thingy. So we leaned me back on the table and started searching. Once we found it I started tearing up I was sooo excited. Mom was there and she was smiling. But Walter was standing with his hands in his pockets with the biggest grin on his face. He's a proud papa! I am getting really excited now. Especially since we volunteered for a clinical study with my OB and on Saturday we get an early ultrasound! It's very reassuring after hearing about some friends and others having miscarriages. This makes it real and ok!

Crib Set

So we went to Babies'R'US and bought a crib bedding set for the bed. It may be premature, but I didn't want to miss out on this set. I really like it and it's neutral, because you know we want a couple of kids and are hoping for at least one of each. So it's gonna work no matter what. :-) We will be posting pictures when the time gets closer and we are decorating the room.

We bought 4 piece crib set and the diaper hanger. I would love to have the blanket and pillow, but we will see. I eventually want to put up wooden letters that spell out their name above the baby's bed when we know what sex the baby is.

Almost there..Week 11:Lime

So the baby is now developing hair follicles, nail beds and teeth buds. Little Baby Phillips has transparent skin through which you can see the blood vessels. Fingers and toes are not webbed anymore.

So there's one more week of the first trimester, and boy oh boy am I looking forward to it. I am having the worst time getting out of bed at a decent time that doesn't require me to throw clothes on and do my makeup at stop lights. Plus, I have my good and bad days when it comes to the upset yucky tummy. I have had to do the hard thing of folding up some of my work pants that I won't be getting back into again until after the baby. Most days when I get home, I am in sweats. It's not like I am showing and I am not really gaining any wait, but there's been a few things, that are uncomfortably snug :-D

Walter's been a real trooper dealing with my mood swings (which have seemed to have been getting worse) and my weird dinners that don't make my tummy churn. :-) It's been so great to have him as my partner through this and love me soooo unconditionally.

Week 10: Prune

So I missed the posting for Week 9: the Green Olive where the baby is starting to form into more of a fetus and developing more baby like features.

Now we are on Week 10: Prune. Here the bones and cartilidge are starting to form and vital

organs are starting to form. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (Soon, legs will too.)

I am finally getting some of my energy back and I am feeling soo much better all day long and in the evening again. I feel like I can actually accomplish more in a day!

Also, mom and dad found a really cool book at Barnes & Noble that I can journal in. It is free form and there's some questions and other fun fill in the blanks. I am having the best time filling it in and trying to do my best to remember to put in information :-)

The nickname Blueberry has become permanent! :-)

Week 8: Raspberry

YAY! We have made it to week 8! The raspberry! According to thebump.com: baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though I can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.

Although, it is the size of a raspberry, Walter is refusing to call it a raspberry. I think we have a permanent nickname for baby, Blueberry.
